A tribute to Shirley Hesleton

On behalf of St Peter’s Church, Staithes I would like to pay tribute to a very special lady who passed away after a long illness on 12 August.

Shirley Hesleton came into our village several years ago with a bright smile and a big heart, she took a real interest and became involved in all aspects of village life.

She encompassed our way of life and didn’t try to change it.

With her enthusiasm, knowledge, interests, expertise and contacts enabled us of St Peter’s Church to undertake a restoration programme of the whole building. With her help we received funding to enable us the total refurbishment of our beloved little church.

Without her help Staithes village would no longer have a place of worship and the Arts and Crafts would not have a venue.

So sadly we say goodbye to this lovely lady.

Her name will live on, she will never be forgotten.
