I wish to thank you for the magnificent spread and write up in the Gazette for the Yorkshire Regiments parade through the town on the 19 July.
I also believe we should publicly thank the following for making the event such a success.
The Yorkshire Regiment who came at such short notice to honour Whitby with their presence and their families who supported them.
The Whitby businesses which donated goods and sponsored the event.
Whitby Town Council who formed a task group which did the organising, consisting of the town clerks, town councillors, supported by representatives from the North Yorkshire Police, Yorkshire Regiment and members of the public.
The Friends Of Pannett Park who provided marshals in the park.
The parks and gardening staff, parking wardens, road cleaning staff all from Scarborough Borough Council who turned out early to prepare for the parade.
Scarborough Borough Council who provided parking for participants.
Borough Mayor Councillor John Blackburn who came and was most welcome.
Last but not least the people and children of Whitby whose cheering as they lined the route told us in the park exactly where the parade had got to.
I know we all wish the Regiment a happy time in their new home in Cyprus and our good wishes to them all.
