Young chefs are the meal deal

Young chefs cooked up plenty of culinary treats in a new red-hot competition.

They were taking part in a heat of the Young Chef Competition at Eskdale School, an event hosted by the Whitby and District Rotary Club.

This is the first time the competition has been held in Whitby.

The competitors were tasked to produce a three course meal.

The judges where Heather Newton and Rob Green and the criteria for marking included costing and planning the ‘healthy option’.

Chefs were also judged on their skills and hygiene, and finally the presentation and taste of each of the three courses.

The winner was Gabriel Robson-Stern, with David Brown coming second and Ashleigh Walker finishing third.

Gabriel will now have the opportunity to go on the East Group ‘Cook Off’ being held at York College on Tuesday 17 January, 2017.

If he is successful he will go forward to the Yorkshire Finals being held at Betty’s Cookery School, Hookstone Park, Harrogate, at the end of January.
