THE RACE for Life charity run takes place next month and two Whitby women are asking for donations to raise money to help fight cancer.

Cancer Research UK’s Whitby manager Jackie Corner and assistant manager Lynne Greenwood are taking part in the event on Sunday 8 May.

Mrs Greenwood said: “The way I’m being sponsored is by people writing a memory message to their loved ones on a little tag which gets pinned to me because I’m doing the race.”

Cancer Research UK has entry forms available in the branch on Baxtergate for anyone interested in joining in the race, which is this year allowing more people to take part due to a relocation from the Oliver’s Mount racecourse to the sea front.

The five kilometre walk will take participants from Scarborough Sea Life Centre, around the marine drive to the Scarborough Spa, making it accessible for wheelchairs and for the first time dog walkers are also invited to take part.

Cancer Research UK’s Race for Life is organised in partnership with Tesco and since it began in 1994 has raised approximately £362million towards research into cancer.

The branch is also giving out donation bags which can be used to drop donations off at a special station located at the start of the race.
