A Whitby seafood supplier was named ‘Seafood Supplier of the Year’ for the second year running at the Food Awards England 2016, this week.

Dennis Crooks Fish Merchants, based at Fairfield Way on Whitby Business Park, picked up the award during a ceremony at the Mercure Manchester Piccadilly Hotel.

The awards are based on nominations and votes from the public and recognise talented businesses and individuals committed to delivering high quality produce.

Speaking of his delight at scooping the award for the second year running, partner in the business, Will Crooks said: “I went into the event thinking ‘there’s no chance we are going to win this same award two years in a row’.

“I couldn’t believe it when our name was read out - I was in a state of shock, but I was obviously delighted we’d won.

“Winning for the second year running can only have a positive impact on the business.”

Dennis Crooks is a family run business, founded in 1977 by Dennis Crooks, when the company was little more than an a stall at Whitby fish market.

The company has since grown into one of the leading fresh fish and seafood suppliers in the country.

Will told the Whitby Gazette how delighted his whole family were at receiving the award: “I was the only member of the family at the evening but I phoned my mum and dad after we’d won and they were so elated.”

Will attended the ceremony with friend and customer Raymond Fusco from Quayside in Whitby.
