Spring finally turned up in Whitby this week as warm weather brought out some of the town’s floral displays.

It is in stark contrast to the recent unseasonal cold snap which stopped council gardeners planting up parts of town and also saw Yorkshire in Bloom judging cancelled.

This week pupils from East Whitby School, joined by Chris Roe from the parks department, finally got to see the benefits of a bulb planting project they took part in in November with other schools across Whitby.

Amanda Smith, chair of Whitby in Bloom said: “The town is looking really fantastic at the moment. That bit of sun has kickstarted everything.”
