This photo of a waterspout was taken by David Norman from the clifftop by Whitby Abbey.

A waterspout is an intense columnar vortex, usually appearing as a funnel-shaped cloud, that occurs over a body of water.

It continues our theme of weather phenomena, following on from Mel Sprague’s photo of two phantom suns taken off the coast at Sandsend.
