Coastguard crews undertook a search of the area to ascertain whether anyone else was in need of assistance.

Members of the public were also advised to keep an appropriate distance from the base of the cliffs.

With nobody else in the area found to be needing any help, all teams were stood down.

A coastguard spokesman said: "We advise that a good rule of thumb is that you should keep at least the height of the cliff away from the base."
