Two bikers were killed in separate crashes near Whitby yesterday (Sunday).

The A169 moors road out of Whitby was closed for hours after the collision between a red Honda motorcycle and a silver Vauxhall Astra near to the junction with Lockton Lane at around 1.10pm.

The rider, 51-year-old man from Redcar was seriously injured in the collision and was taken to Scarborough Hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

He had been travelling from Pickering towards Whitby.

Earlier in the day a motorcyclist, also from the Teesside area, died at the scene of an accident near the Falcon pub on the Whitby to Scarborough Road.

Police say it happened at around 10.20am and involved a silver Nissan X-trail and a white Yamaha motorcycle which was travelling towards Scarborough in company with another bike.

The rider was aged 47 and from Stockton.

Police are now appealing for witnesses to both crashes and anyone who can help is being asked to contact them on 101.
