THE first Santa stroll in aid of Whitby’s lifeboat took place on Sunday.
Around 30 people joined Saint Nick in a leisurely stroll from the Whalebones on the West Cliff to Upgang Ravine, then along the beach and back to the Bandstand.
Betty Bayliss, of Friends of Whitby Lifeboat, said: “We had a good day weather-wise and most people seemed to enjoy it.”
Members of Whitby’s Pirate Society joined dog walkers to take part, and around £70 was raised for Whitby’s RNLI lifeboat team.
The event finished at the Bandstand, where Father Christmas handed out presents to all the children who took part.
It was the first time the event had been held and Betty said she hopes that it can grow in popularity each year.
Next up raising funds for Whitby’s lifeboat are staff from the Royal Hotel who are participating in the Boxing Day Dip
