Man dies in Tranmire collision

A 65-year-old man from the Whitby area has died following a collision on the A171 on Sunday evening.

Police are appealing for witnesses after a man died in a road traffic collision near Whitby.

The local man, aged 65, was pronounced dead at the scene when his silver Vauxhall Vectra estate collided with a white Mercedes E220 on the A171 outside Calais House Farm in Tranmire, at around 9.20pm on Sunday 8 September 2013.

At the time of the collision, the Mercedes was travelling towards Guisborough and the Vectra was going in the opposite direction.

The driver of the Mercedes a 27-year-old man from Scarborough and his passenger a 22-year-old woman, also from Scarborough, were taken to James Cook Hospital with serious but not life-threatening injuries.

Officers are appealing to anyone who witnessed the collision or saw either vehicle prior to the incident to contact them with information.
