WHITBY’S lifeboat service received a donation of £500 from a charitable society on 28 July.

The volunteer press officer and chaplain of RNLI Whitby, Canon David Smith, attended a meeting of the Vale of York Oddfellows at the Alexandra Bowls Centre in Scarborough.

Before the meeting began the Chairman presented Canon Smith with a cheque for £500 towards RNLI Whitby.

Canon Smith thanked him and the society for its kind generosity and spoke briefly about the work of RNLI Whitby and the crew. He then presented them with a framed photograph of RNLI Whitby’s all-weather lifeboat George and Mary Webb, which had been signed by Mike Russell, RNLI Whitby Coxswain.
