Kayak in difficulties in Runswick Bay

Runswick Bay rescue boat was called to rescue three kayakers who had capsized and been washed ashore at Kettleness Bay on Saturday (25 June).

An adult and two children had capsized their vessel in a moderate swell, leaving them stranded on the shore at Kettleness Bay.

The rescue boat was launched following a 999 call to the coastguard and the kayakers attracted attention by launching a flare.

A helicopter from RAF Leconsfield and the Staithes coastguard team were also on the scene.

There were no injuries to the rescued parties and a stranded kayak was recovered.

A two-man craft that was part of the same group was monitored while they made their way to the shore.
