The inquest of a Sandsend man who was killed in an Air France crash is due to take place today.

Arthur Coakley (61) of Sandsend, was among five Britons killed on board flight 447 when it crashed into the sea en route from Rio de Janeiro to Paris in June 2009.

Investigations following the crash blamed the tragic failure of the aircraft on faulty flight equipment and pilots who failed to deal with a malfunction.

The inquest of Mr Coakley and another man, Neil Warrior, will take place at Northallerton County Hall and will be conducted by coroner Michael Oakley.

Mr Coakley, a married father of three, was a structural design engineer and a partner in the Aberdeen oil firm PD&MS.
