Whitby’s lifeboat crew were called upon twice on Wednesday to help vessels stuck in fog.
The first was a call to the 14ft boat Garfield, at 7.55am which had suffered engine failure.
It was nearly five miles out to sea and was towed back to Whitby an hour and a half later.
Less than two hours later they received another call for Madeline which was on passage to Whitby and had become disorientated 2.3 miles north east of Whitby.
The vessel and three crew were located by radar and VHF direction-finding equipment and escorted back to Whitby harbour just after lunch-time.
