THE weekend and evening bus services which are being withdrawn due to the loss of funding will stop running in April.
Arriva, who had an agreement to operate the services on behalf on North Yorkshire County Council (NYCC), confirmed to Whitby Gazette they will end on April 17.
In a bid to cope with government cuts NYCC gave the go-ahead at a meeting last week for the subsidies it provided to fund the services to be withdrawn.
It means the end of the road for the 5a Monday to Saturday evening journeys from 2013 between Whitby and Loftus; 5a Sunday evening journeys from 1913 between Whitby and Loftus; 93 daily evening journeys from 1930 between Whitby and Scarborough; 91 Monday to Saturday evening journeys from 1830; 92 Monday to Saturday evening journeys from 1800; 94 Monday to Saturday evening journeys from 1850; 95 Monday to Saturday evening journeys from 1910; 91, 92, 94, 95 all Sunday journeys.
Arriva said that the money taken in fares on those services wasn’t enough alone to cover the cost of running the buses but they would look at continuing some of the daytime services on the 5A and 93 services.
