A WEEKEND by the seaside got off to a bad start for two holidaymakers after their car rolled down a cliff in Runswick Bay.

The couple, from Manchester, had checked into Cockpit House bed and breakfast and taken their bags up to their room when out of a window they noticed their car was no longer where it had been parked.

The Toyota Supra had rolled down a cliff and into fencing, narrowly missing the old Runswick Bay lifeboat house, now a private residence.

Jen Smith, owner of Cockpit House bed and breakfast, said: “They parked up outside my house and they took their cases to the bedroom.

“They looked out of the window and wondered where their car had gone.”

“We have no idea why it happened because when they looked at the gears it was in park.”

The car was later recovered and taken back with the owners to Manchester.
