Both vehicles had been attempting to overtake a Toyota Swift camper van, heading towards Whitby, when the collision occurred.

The motorcycle was forced onto the grass verge, but somehow the rider managed to maintain control of his vehicle.

However, the driver of the Ford, who was from the Whitby area and is described as being in his late teens, lost control of his vehicle and it collided with a wall and flipped onto its roof.

PC John Webb, of Whitby Police, said: “We are very lucky nobody has been killled, especially the motorcyclist who was very vulnerable.”
