THE CLOCK face at St Mary’s Church has been cleaned up and re-painted thanks to a £1000 donation.
It took specialist contractors a couple of weeks to painstakingly restore the clock face by taking the hands off, clean them up and re-paint them using gilded paint.
The money to pay for the works came via a generous donation from the Queen Bee Quilters but the works have only recently been carried out due to the weather.
Churchwarden John Hemson said: “We kept the money until the men could get up there and do the job. It was a hard job, it took them a fortnight so it wasn’t a quick job.
“We had to wait for months for the weather to improve and they had to use specialist gilded paint.
“But the clock looks beautiful and people down in town can look up and see the time.”
