TWO motorists were left with serious injuries and had to be airlifted to hospital following a smash between a car and a motorbike on the Whitby to Scarborough Road on Friday evening.

Police say the incident, near the Flask Inn, involved a red BMW motorcycle heading towards Whitby and a blue Peugeot 106 car heading in the opposite direction.

The rider of the BMW, a man in his 50s from Wakefield, was taken to James Cook Hospital in Middlesbrough by air ambulance and is very poorly but stable.

A woman from Hull, who was a passenger in the Peugeot, was airlifted to Scarborough Hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries and the male driver of the Peugeot was taken to Scarborough District Hospital by road ambulance with minor injuries.

Traffic Constable Mark Hutchings said: “I am appealing to anyone who witnessed the incident or saw either vehicle prior to the collision to contact me as soon as possible as I need to speak to them.”
