AN eight year-old boy playing in mud underneath the Swing Bridge was rescued by Whitby’s lifeboat on Sunday.
Members of the public concerned for his safety had rung Humber Coastguard which launched from just across the harbour at 11.30am.
The police and an ambulance were also called out.
When the lifeboat crew reached him he was knee deep in the mud, unaware of his predicament and frightened by all the attention from the Bridge above.
Whitby’s ILB coaxed the young man onboard and returned him to the Station to await his parents.
The lifeboat was refuelled and made ready for service again at 12.10pm.
