LOCAL musician Alistair Griffin and former Middlesbrough footballer Craig Hignett will lead a team of riders in the Coast to Coast challenge later this year.
They are calling on fellow local cyclists to join them on the 150 mile journey from Grange Over Sands in Cumbria to Scarborough.
On the way they will take in off road routes and cycle trails and the Yorkshire Dales and the moors as well as the coast.
The ride takes place from Friday 1 July to Sunday 3 July in aid of Marie Curie Cancer Care.
Alistair from Castleton found stardom on tv show Fame Academy and has been involved with the fundraiser for the last couple of years.
He said: “For the last two years, I have provided entertainment for the celebratory party in the evening and it always looks like a great thing to do, so this year I’m going to both ride and sing. It would be great if people rise to the challenge and get signed up.”
An open evening is planned for Thursday 17 February at Kennedy’s Bar in York from 7pm where interested cyclists can go along and learn more about the event and speak to previous participants.
