Sports taster day for disabled proves a winner

A Sports Taster Day has been run by Whitby Disablement Action Group, which provided the opportunity for disabled people to participate in a variety of activities at Whitby Leisure Centre.

These included volleyball led by Anthony Laffan, using adaptable bikes with Scarborough Festival of Cycling, Boxercise and Easy Line run by Chris Storer, Boccia with Matt Hewison and Archery delivered by the Whitby Company of Archers.

Kelly Baxter of Whitby DAG said: “We had a fantastic turnout, receiving excellent support from local groups, services and individuals.

“We received lots of feedback from the day which will help to shape our pilot project.

“We are looking to recruit Volunteer Activity Buddies who can assist with supporting people to participate in a variety of sports.”
