THREE schoolboys have put up and shut up to help raise money for an old folks home.

Matthew Douglas, Owen Huggins and Kian Watkins, all aged 12, managed to keep schtum throughout the school day in aid of Hawkesgarth Care Home in Hawsker.

They attend Conyers School in Yarm and started their sponsored silence at 8.50am when school started until the end of the school day at 3.40pm. They made £250.

They decided to donate the proceeds to Hawkesgarth because Matthew’s great great aunt, Ann Barningham has been a resident there for two years after spending most of her life in the Mulgrave Road area of Whitby.
