Villagers of Sandsend pulled together and raised hundreds of pounds to give their church a whole new makeover.
Refurbishments at St Mary’s Church have been hailed unbelievable by a parishioner after repairs and improvements have been made to the building.
Repairs to the church roof and leaded windows were made as a result of the success of sales from a cake stall, with cakes baked by residents, raising over £500.
Woodlands Eat held a collection which made a lot of money for the church, while donations were also made by Cleveland Potash and the Beach Shop in Sandsend.
The floor was sanded, sealed and varnished and a new entrance carpet has been laid and Fletcher and Woodhouse donated a new aisle carpet.
Parishioner Helen Lloyd said: “It is unbelievable, you wouldn’t recognise it.
“The church looks beautiful.”
As a thank you for everyone who was involved, the church is holding a thanksgiving service on Sunday 28 August at 6pm.
