Fire crews from Whitby and Lythe were called to reports of a blaze in a building along Sneaton Lane in Ruswarp last night at around 10.15pm.

The building and all its contents were completely destroyed by the fire, a North Yorkshire Fire Service spokesperson said.

Upon their arrival, the fire crews found a joinery workshop well alight. They soon requested further fire appliances, making the total attendance four fire engines, along with an aerial ladder platform from Scarborough. Crews used main jets and a monitor from the aerial ladder platform to protect the surrounding buildings from fire spread.

The building was used for storing wood, a tractor and three motorbikes.

The cause of the fire will be under investigation later today (16 April).
