CHEQUES were handed over at RAF Fylingdales after defence staff held a series of fundraising events.

Serco Defence Science and Nuclear have two contracts at the Ministry of Defence base on the moors and raised £3400 for each of its two chosen charities.

They were May Lodge which is in Scarborough and Isabella Court in Pickering which is part of the Wilf Ward Trust.

Fundraising events ranged from coffee mornings, sponsored walks, bike ride, charity car wash, a golf event and draws at Easter, American Independence Day and Christmas.

Martin Hynes, Serco contract manager, said the generosity of the personnel at RAF Fylingdales never ceased to amaze him and it was thanks to this that Serco were able to present such generous amounts in times of increased economic uncertainty.
