A book that traces the history of dice games from ancient Egypt and Greece gave pupils at Caedmon School in Whitby the lucky chance to have a lesson on the laws of probability.

Pictured are William Shaw, teaching assistant Roger Hartley, Jeremy Baker, Charlotte Wharrick, Sophie Williams and Kory Boushall who played with the fascinating descriptions of dice magic and chances of risk in The Pocket Guide to Dice & Dice Games Book by Dr Keith Souter, a writer of books ranging from medical, science, detective and westerns. The book, published by Pen & Sword, includes a reference to the small coloured glass creations of Whitby’s Dorothy Clegg Sandgate shop, referring to Lucky Ducks as renowned charms.
