CHRISTMAS came early to residents at Hawkesgarth Lodge nursing home in Whitby last week, as the latest additions to Santa’s sleigh visited the home.

Two ‘ponies as therapy’ horses, Molly and Mr. P, entertained residents in their reindeer costumes of antlers and red noses.

Jane Hall, activities co-ordinator at Hawkesgarth Lodge said: “Having the ponies inside the home was absolutely incredible. They were both very well behaved and have got us all excited for Christmas.”

Jane Mortimer, a Conservative councillor from Scarborough Borough Council, also attended and enjoyed chatting with residents and staff at the home. The councillor, who represents Fylingdales ward, enjoyed meeting the ponies and hearing about the great work they do.

Mrs Hall added: “Thank you to Councillor Jane Mortimer for joining us. It is always great to show people from the local community what we get up to.”

Hawkesgarth Lodge is part of European Care Group and provides tailored residential, nursing and dementia care for older people. The home provides person-centred care, identifying people’s goals and ambitions and focusing on enablement and the promotion of personal dignity.
