WHITBY TOWN COUNIL (WTC) is calling on businesses to back the Armed Forces Parade which will be taking place in the town next month.
The 2nd Battalion Yorkshire Regiment Farewell Parade is being staged on 19 July this year - the first for many years.
The working party set up by WTC to organise the march is aware of the support in the town for the “Heroes Welcome” initiative and would like to see some of that support extended to the Farewell Parade.
It is inviting any local business who can offer assistance or a financial contribution towards the event to come forward so that “Whitby can give our troops and their families a day to remember”.
Mayor of Whitby Coun John Freeman said: “It should be a spectacular event and we are in no doubt the people of Whitby will turn out in their droves to support the efforts of the men and women who proudly serve this country, and pay tribute to those close to this town who have served abroad but not returned.
“It would be a great gesture from the business community in the town if they could step forward and support our troops.”
