BUCKETFULS of one and two penny coins were collected by the pupils of Stakesby Community Primary School for their chosen charity Help for Heroes.

The children were challenged to save up their pennies during the second half of the autumn term and take them into school on the last day.

When the mammoth task of counting them was completed it was found that the youngsters had collected a total of £193.53.

Flight Lieutenant Garf Parker and Flight Sergeant Bob Greenfield from RAF Fylingdales were invited to the school to accept a cheque for the amount on behalf of Help for Heroes.

Flt Lieut Parker told the children: “The amount collected was truly staggering and we can only applaud your efforts.

“It really goes to show that every penny counts.”
