Pedestrian seriously injured after HGV crash

A woman in her late 60s has been seriously injured after a heavy goods vehicle collided with her in Sandsend.

The incident occurred at around 5.30pm on Thursday on the bridge outside The Hart Inn, a stretch of the A174.

The driver of the HGV was uninjured but the 66-year-old pedestrian, who is from the Goole area, received injuries that are described as serious and was taken to James Cook University Hospital.

The stretch of road was closed until 12.30am on Friday while the scene was investigated.

Traffic Constable Gareth Gilleard, of North Yorkshire Police’s Roads Policing Group, is appealing for anyone who witnessed the collision to contact the police as soon as possible.
