One of the best ever dispersal sales held at Ruswarp Market was an apt description of John and Tom Raws suckler cow sale on Thursday 29 September.

The outstanding quality of the Limousin and Belgian Blue cows together with their Lim calves at foot attracted a huge amount of interest both locally, regionally and nationally.

Buyers from as far ahead as Berkshire competed with customers from the North of England and trade was flying.

Highlight of the sale were two pedigree Lim 2012 cows with strong calves at foot and PDed back in calf for spring.

Spirited bidding resulted in £3,800 and £3,000 respectfully finding new homes with Mr RD Anderson, Middleham and AM Flintoft, Robin Hoods Bay.

Other notable prices were:

Lim 2011 Cow and Hf calf, PDed back I/C £2,700, P Hill, Ugthorpe. Lim 2009 Cow and Hf calf, PDed back I/C £2,750, JA Stoney and Son, Pateley Bridge. Lim 2014 Cow and Hf calf, PDed back I/C £2,800, JA Stoney and Son, Pateley Bridge. Lim 2012 Cow and Hf Calf, PDed back I/C £2,750, C Beal, Yedingham. In total the 46 cows and calves averaged £2,227 with nine outfits making £2,500 or more.

Following on from the cows were the stock bulls, the 2010 Lim born bull made 3,800gns and the 17 month old Lim sold for 3,400gns.

The second part of this sale was the dispersal for Colin Williamson, Grosmont.

The heifers on offer all met a strong trade and averaged: 10 x Heifers with 1 month old calves topped £1,350 with an average of £1,241, 11 x heifers in calf due shortly topped £1,100 with an average of £925.

l A packed ringside of buyers greeted the flock dispersal sale of Mr Marcus Holmes and Bryan Brown Dec’d at Ruswarp Market on Wednesday 28 September.

A total of 1,267 sheep changed hands with buyers leaving highly satisfied with the quality of the breeding ewes on offer and the vendors delighted with the prices made.
