A PAIR of local nurses completed the Yorkshire Three Peak Challenge recently, raising over £500 for Macmillan Cancer Support – and they even took a bit of light reading with them.

Dot Thompson, a senior nurse at St. Catherine’s Hospice Scarborough, and Carol Baker, a health care assistant on Ward 3, Whitby Hospital, completed the course in just over 13 hours.

The event involved climbing three of North Yorkshire’s most gruelling peaks, Pen-Y-Ghent, Whernside and Ingleborough.

The pair, who met more than 13 years ago when both were working at Whitby Hospital, were particularly remembering Carol’s mother Connie and Alan Dobson, a good friend and neighbour of Dot.

Despite the exertions of the day, the pair still managed to take along a copy of the Whitby Gazette to pose with on every peak of the challenge.

They would like to thank everybody that sponsored them and also the back markers at the challenge, who kept them in good spirits until the finish.
