Man arrested as fracking protests return to Whitby firm

Police have arrested a 21-year-old man who climbed on a Sky Scaffolding lorry at the Whitby site on Wednesday morning.

Protesters from a group known as the 'Kirby Misperton Protection Camp' staged a second pop-up protest at the business on Fairfield Way, opposing the company's involvement in a fracking site near Pickering.

A police spokesman said: “Police were called this morning to a business premises in Whitby, where a 21-year-old man had climbed onto the roof of a heavy goods vehicle.

“Officers spoke to him, and he climbed down and was arrested.

“He has been arrested on suspicion of using violence or intimidation on a person, family or property to compel abstention from lawful activity; and aggravated trespass. He remains in custody at this time.”
