A ROAD in the Whitby area has re-opened two hours after a lorry was blown over in high winds.

North Yorkshire Police received a call just before 1pm today (4 February).

A police spokesman said the driver was trapped by his legs in the cab at the scene of the accident at the Ugthorpe turn-off on the A171 Whitby to Guisborough Road.

Other motorists had to take avoiding action and swerved out of the way.

An eyewitness told the Whitby Gazette the lorry’s load was all over the road.

The road was re-opened shortly before 3pm.

The injured man was taken to James Cook Hospital by road ambulance for treatment.
