Young school cooks looking the part

YOUNG super cooks at Egton Church of England Primary School will now look the part with their smart new aprons, tea towels and hand blenders.

The schoolchildren were awarded 30 aprons, 30 tea towels and 18 handheld blenders for a competition they entered last autumn during British Food Fortnight.

Headteacher Liz Orland said: “We were given them in the Kenwood competition for the quality of our work.”

The children who competed made a number of interesting and novel dishes for the competition including orange carrots, Ben’s biscuits on a pear and chocolate soup and a vegetarian toad-in-the-hole.

The competition rules restricted them to the use of ingredients produced in Britain, as far as possible from the local area, within a budget of just 5.

The school has only 32 children aged from four to 11.
