A woman was rushed to hospital this morning with life-threatening injuries after being discovered unconscious on Henrietta Street.
The area around Henrietta Street and the 199 steps was cordoned off as police investigated the incident, which they say remains unexplained.
North Yorkshire Police were alerted at around 6.45am after the 45-year-old woman was discovered near Henrietta Street, having suffered a serious head injury.
She was taken in the Great North Air Ambulance to James Cook Hospital in Middlesbrough, where her injuries were described as life-threatening.
A spokesperson for North Yorkshire Police said: “The woman’s injuries are being treated as unexplained at this time and officers are investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.
“The area around the 199 steps has been cordoned off and officers would like to thank the public for their patience while they complete their enquiries at the scene.”
