Woman in miraculous escape as car plunges 100ft
A LOCAL woman cheated death after the car she was travelling in plunged 100ft down an embankment near Sleights yesterday (Tuesday) morning.
The woman - whose injuries are not believed to be life-threatening - was airlifted to Scarborough Hospital by a helicopter from RAF Leconfield.
The incident took place just before 10am when the woman's Mini left the road in Eskdaleside near Partridge Next farm.
Fire crews from Whitby, Lythe and Malton attended the scene as did an ambulance crew and police.
When emergency crews arrived on the scene the woman was still conscious and was able to communicate with paramedics.
A policeman on the scene said the woman had had a 'miraculous escape' and believed the Mini had saved her life.
A recovery vehicle arrived on the scene early in the afternoon and took the Mini away for tests.
