White powder thrown at police officers: Man is charged
A MAN is to appear in court later this month charged with five offences in connection with a drugs raid in Whitby during which police were showered with white powder.
After the incident at a flat on the West Cliff on 18 April this year, five police officers needed hospital treatment after the substance got into their mouths and lungs.
The officers were praised by acting assistant chief constable of North Yorkshire police Steve Read.
On Saturday police charged a 26-year-old Whitby man with five offences in connection with the raid – possession of Class A drug diamorphine, plus a further four charges of wilfully obstructing police officers in the execution of their duty.
He is due to appear at Scarborough Magistrates' Court on 15 July.
