Whitby concert to help victims of Haiti earthquake
WHITBY is staging a fund-raising concert to help the people of Haiti left devastated by earthquakes.
Panda Lasagna, Carl Robinson, The Yabbas, Whitby Now Band, Mick James and 7 Times Lost will all appear for the money-spinning concert on Tuesday.
Whitby Now, in conjunction with the Whitby and District Rifle Club, is hosting the charity event.
Organiser Mark Liddell – the "Bob Geldof of Whitby" according to Mick James of the Whitby and District Rifle Club – has hastily put the show together in aid of the Haiti appeal.
He hopes the people of the area will rally round as they did in previous such concerts for forces charity Help for Heroes and victims of the Asian tsunami.
Mr Liddell said: "We have put a programme together which we hope will provide a great evening's entertainment.
"Carl Robinson willl be resurrecting his Jimi Hendrix set, which went down a storm at the Help For Heroes gig and the Whitby Now band will again do their popular Beatles covers.
"The tsunami fund-raiser held at Whitby Pavilion was huge – it raised 23,000 and many of the Heartbeat cast joined us for the Help For Heroes concert."
Mark has been helped by fellow organisers James Wales, Paul Whittaker and Alison Liddell.
"Whitby Now wants to do its bit to help the people of Haiti," Mr Liddell added.
"There has been that much going on in the town and we wanted to do our little bit."
A major earthquake struck Haiti on 12 January just 10 miles from the capital Port-au-Prince.
Charities such as Oxfam are helping provide thousands of people with water, shelter, health and sanitation equipment.
Tickets for the Whitby Rifle Club gig are 3 on the door.
The concert runs from 7.30pm to 1am.
