Whitby railway men Darren and Roger are Yorkshire pin ups

THE North Yorkshire Moors Railway – with fireman Darren Crone and driver Roger Barker on the Sir Nigel Gresley steam locomotive – are helping fly the flag for Britain after becoming a poster attraction for British Tourism Week.

The NYMR also features on an international poster being used to promote the event worldwide. Marketing manager Phil Bustard said the railway was already enjoying a fair share of attention.

He said: "I hosted a group of Chinese journalists on Saturday, who joined our train at Whitby for Grosmont. The previous day I hosted a group of five Australian tour operators, travelling from Pickering to Goathland.

"I reckon we are one in a million for having been successful in promoting one of the faces of Britain."

Hundreds of events have been organised to highlight the contribution of tourism to Britain's local, regional and national economies through the campaign British Tourism Benefits Everyone, Everywhere, Every Day.
