Whitby police are appealing for information after a serious road traffic collision near the town.

It occurred at 8.25am this morning (Fri Mar 14), on the A174 at the crossroads of East Barnby Lane and Goldsborough.

The collision involved a white Fiesta Zetec, which was heading from Whitby to Redcar, and a 13-year-old girl, who was a pedestrian.

As a result of the incident, the girl was taken to James Cook Hospital, Middlesbrough, with serious injuries, where she currently remains.

Traffic Sergeant Pete Wood, of the Force’s Roads Policing Group, said: “if you witnessed the collision or noticed the vehicle or girl just prior to the incident, I urge you to contact the police straight away.”
