Whitby pier repair work nears
WORKS to repair Whitby's crumbling east pier extension have moved closer after Scarborough Borough Council agreed to accept an Environment Agency grant.
Scarborough Council has entered into a contract with Fugro Seacore Ltd for the site investigation works at a cost of 225,245.36.
The council's head of Legal and Support Services, Ian Anderson, wrote in his report to the council: "The two main risks are tide times and downtime associated with weather, bad sea conditions or fog etc.
"To mitigate these risks the contract provides for two alternative levels of pricing based on 24-hour working seven days a week and then 10 hours five days a week, for 205,475.44 and 225,245.36 respectively.
"Risk transfer has been included within the contract.
"Within the contractor's proposal is a 25k payment for accepting the weather risk from days 1-10, after day 10 the contractor is due 2.5k per day but only up until day 18 (hence the potential for an increase in price).
"After that the weather risk falls solely with the contractor."
The works will be carried out in the coming weeks before the main repair work is undertaken.
