Whitby is wettest

Whitby has suffered its wettest year since 2000.

A total of 882.9mm of rain fell on the district in 2012 – the highest reading since an almost identical one 12 years ago and 33% above the yearly average.

Before that, the only higher rainfall recorded was in 1937 when a staggering 960mm of rain hit Whitby.

December’s total rainfall of 109.2mm was also 50% above the normal monthly average of 73mm.
