Walk to Bay is named number one walk

THE Cumbria to Robin Hood's Bay coast to coast walk has been highlighted as one of the 10 best long-distance journeys in Britain.

The 190-mile route route made famous by Alfred Wainwright “offers perhaps the most dramatic and lush scenery in the country,” says a Walking Special feature in The Daily Telegraph.

It recommends undertaking the trod over 12 days, starting in the Lake District at St Bees Head in Cumbria.

Putting the St Bees to the Bay as the number one among walks, the guide also includes walks in Somerset, South Wales, Cornwall, East Sussex, Fife, Warwickshire, Staffordshire, and the Isle of Wight.

Writer Nicholas Roe said: “There is the glory of the North York Moors.

“Touching the sea at start and finish makes for emotional brackets of hope and achievement.”

Staithes was also featured in the same newspaper, describing the undeveloped hamlet of fishermen’s cottages as having one of the most photographed homes in Britain – the pink-painted three-bedroom Beckside Cottage at the foot of the cliff on the quay.

The property, being marketed at 295,000 by Carter Jonas estate agency, has appeared on cake tins, national visitor guides, calendars, chocolate boxes and on the boxes of Yorkshire Tea.
