Villagers pay respects to those who fell

THE villages will be holding their own services of remembrance on Sunday.

There are many services taking place, allowing everyone to pay their respects to those who gave their lives in defence of their country.

In Goathland there will be a gathering at the War Memorial at 10.30am followed by a service in St Mary’s Church.

The churches of St Hilda’s and Hinderwell Methodist Chapel are holding a joint Service of Remembrance at at 10am led by the Rev Alan Coates at the Methodist Chapel.

This will be followed by a wreath laying at Hinderwell War Memorial.

A short service will be held at the Lealholm War Memorial on Sunday at 10am, led by the Rev David Moss. A collection will be taken on the day for the maintenance of the memorial with a donation to the Royal British Legion.

There will be a service in Sleights from 10am at the War Memorial, for St John’s Church.

James Stonehouse will sound the last post.

Christ Church in Ugthorpe will have a Remembrance Service from 10.55am, led by Anne Horne and Sally Jones.

St Margaret’s Church in Aislaby will have a Remembrance Day service at 10am and the Castleton and Danby Remembrance Service is at 2.30pm at Castleton Church followed by a walk to the War Memorial.

Hawsker Methodist Church and All Saints’ Church are having a joint service at 2.30pm in Hawsker Methodist Church and Robin Hood’s Bay and Fylingthorpe Methodist Churches will join a united service at St Stephen’s Church at 10.45am.

St Peter’s in Staithes is holding a service at the War Memorial and the Memorial Hall at 2pm for the residents of the village.

And in Egton there will be a service at 10.30am at St Hilda's Church.
