VIDEO: Merit stickers and detentions as Goughie goes back to Whitby's Caedmon School
I HAVE very happy memories of my time at Caedmon School – in the days when Mr Cowell was at the helm – and we sang the Whitby song in assembly, Will Your Anchor Hold In The Storms Of Life?
These days Tony Hewitt is in charge, as I found out to my cost when Goughie went back to school for a day.
Assistant headteacher Mrs Carter led an assembly on Mother's Day – I sat at the back with the teachers – it was there I spied my old PE teacher, Mrs Fellows (Mrs Foreman in my day).
She was a hard taskmaster, especially in cross country, probably why I ran so fast; and trainers getting stuck fast in mud in January was no excuse, was I meant to keep running in my hockey socks?
Apart from when a shot put was dropped on my toe, you know who you are, but least said soonest mended – and Endeavour house suffered that sports day. I was delighted to find the houses still exist – Endeavour, Adventure, Resolution and Discovery.
That brought back some fond, albeit competitive memories.
I went to the school in the late 80s – I'm not that old. Okay then, mid 80s.

I got a merit sticker but all the excitement led to me missing French and getting put on report.
Children chaperoned me from room to room, my chaperones did not come to collect me and then, horror of horrors, no PE kit.
Thankfully I found a pair of trainers in the car to join in with netball after my school dinner and I scored a goal – one handed.
I managed to avoid being sent to the isolation room, their equivalent of Waterloo Road's cooler.
In French Miss Jeannin tested my rusty skills, complete with a Hartlepool accent.
In German a weather rap was led by an animated Miss Richardson, complete with actions.
But my sporting prowess seemingly counted for nothing as I was summoned to Mr Hewitt's office for, wait for it, being late for drama, missing French (he accused me of truanting) and not bringing my PE kit.
He rang my dad who was going tell my mum and I got a Saturday morning detention, to arrive at 8.30am in school uniform. I wouldn't dare ...
