A car driver was lucky to espace without serious injury after his vehicle was hit by a train at Ruswarp today (Tuesday December 31).

Officers from North Yorkshire Police and the British Transport Police attended the incident which was reported at 12.06pm.

A spokesperson for the transport police said: “The train remained upright and on the tracks.

“There are not believed to be any injuries to the driver of the vehicle, a white Mitsubishi Pick-up truck, or anyone on board the train.

“The Rail Accident Investigation Branch has been informed.”

Enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances and anyone with information is asked to contact British Transport Police on 0800 40 50 40 quoting incident number 149 of 31/12/2013.”
