Track satellites and the International Space Station over Whitby
If you have seen a bright flash in the sky at night for brief second, you may have just seen an Iridium Flare.
An Iridium Flare is a satellite currently orbiting the Earth that reaches the correct height and angle to momentarily bounce a reflection of the sun from the other side of the Earth.

Iridium Flares can often be mistaken for UFOs and other anomalies in the sky. However you can now look out for these objects in the sky using the Heavens Above website. You can also see when the International Space Station (ISS) is orbiting over Whitby.
Check the 24 hour timetables, 7 day timetables or previous 48 hour timetables and obtain the direction, angle and brightness of an object. You will need a clear night to see these.
